Developmentally Supportive Care

NEOCON 2019

39TH ANNUAL CONVENTION OF NATIONAL NEONATOLOGY FORUM

Pre- Conference National Workshop on

DEVELOPMENTALLY SUPPORTIVE CARE (DSC) IN PREEMIES AND NEUROPROTECTION IN NICU

"Strategies for Neonatal Integrative Developmental care"

Organized by

NATIONAL NEONATOLOGY FORUM - India in association with

Development and Supportive Care Foundation for Newborn & Children (India)

Developmentally Supportive Care (DSC) involves a broad category of interventions designed to minimize the stress of the NICU environment. The goal is to provide a structured care environment which supports, encourages and guides the developmental organization of the premature and/or critically ill infant.

When in the NICU, neonates are under severe and often life threatening stress. They have immature and or fragile autonomic and nervous systems. DSC can give them more reserve to heal, minimize affects of trauma, and promote normal development of nervous system.

DSC supports autonomic stability, normal motor, sensory, neurological development and promotes behavioral state organization. It also decreases length of hospital stay, improves weight gain and shortens the time to full enteral feeding.

This specially formatted and structured hands-on workshop on “Developmentally Supportive Care (DSC) in Preemies and NEUROPROTECTION IN NICU” by experts is a unique opportunity for Neonatologists, NICU nursing staff, students training in Neonatology, Pediatricians and Occupational/ Physiotherapists to hone their skills and knowledge on DSC with the goal of optimizing the neonatal outcome of their neonates.
